Understanding and Treatment of Hypoglycemia

During this virtual seminar, Dr. Lai will speak about hypoglycemia, a complication of diabetes that can be misunderstood as symptoms of other comorbid conditions. Case examples will be used to integrate theoretical concepts with patient scenarios that can be immediately applied to hospice and long-term care settings. At conclusion of the webinar, all will develop an appreciation of the multiple levels of hypoglycemia and how to best treat their patients.

By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:

• Develop awareness of hypoglycemia prevalence in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes patients • Identify symptoms of patients who are hypoglycemic and who are risk for severe hypoglycemia
• Define and differentiate between the different levels of severe hypoglycemia
• Explain what is the standard of care for those with hypoglycemia
• Explain the differences between the glucagon agents and their advantages
