C. Difficile Colitis: Diagnosis, Treatment and Prevention
May 19, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Presented by: Asif Merchant, MD, FACP, CMD, CPE
Clostridioides (formerly Clostridium) difficile infection (CDI) is one of the most common hospital-acquired (nosocomial) infections and is an increasingly frequent cause of morbidity and mortality among older adult hospitalized patients.
Each year in the United States, about a half million people get sick from C. difficile, and in recent years, infections have become more frequent, severe and difficult to treat. Recurrent C. difficile infections are also on the rise. In this lecture, Dr. Merchant will be discussing the prevalence, diagnosis and management of C. Difficile infections.
By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
- Identify the signs and symptoms of C. difficile colitis
- Review the diagnostic tests used for this infection
- Discuss treatment options for C. difficile colitis
- Gain a better understanding of management options for this disease
